Many of us have heard the song “Father Abraham” because not only have most of us learned this song as children, but our children have learned this song in Sunday school. As we know there are several verses and actions to this song. This often causes some to not want to sing it because it’s so long. I enjoy watching the children sing and have fun with it. As I thought about this song, I thought about how there’s really no way to shorten the song. You can’t leave out one part or the song won’t make sense.
This also applies to serving God; we can’t leave out one part or it all won’t make perfect sense. We won’t get the most out of our walk with God. We won’t have an actual close relationship with God. We won’t get the complete fulfillment of salvation. There’s a reason why the author wrote all those verses to “Father Abraham”, because it’s a complete song. Just as God, the Author, inspired His Holy Word to be written with all those verses, containing every single word we need for it to be a complete inspiration for us. Leaving out any part of God’s Word decreases our walk with Him, decreases our opportunity to have full knowledge of His Word, decreases our full potential with God.
My Lord, please forgive me for not wanting one of Your songs sung just because it was longer. I realize it takes every verse in order for the song to have it’s full potential. Just as I realize it takes all of Your Word for my full potential.
