David stood before Goliath as a youth who had had enough of this towering uncircumcised Philistine who was screaming curses to his Lord, the living God. David the youngest son of Jesse who had 8 sons, just a shepherd boy tending to his father’s flock. Came and stood up to this giant of a man with his staff, a shepherd’s bag with 5 smooth stones and a sling. He stood before the mountain of a man, this mountain of a problem for Israel, this mountain of an issue as he screamed blasphemies about Israel’s God. Israel’s men were sore afraid, they saw the problem with their eyes and not their faith in God who David knew would stand with him. “Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God. David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.” 1 Samuel 17:36-37 KJV
David didn’t make excuses as to why Goliath should get to curse his God, nor did he create illogical reasoning so Goliath would feel the freedom to voice his opinion. David had enough of this uncircumcised Philistine cursing his God. So as no one was willing to stand up for the Lord. David stood anyway. David a young shepherd boy, had the power of God on his side and he walked up to Goliath and made his intentions clear. Goliath was also looking with his own eyes and couldn’t see by faith this young boy was about to put him in his place. Death was eminent. His death that is.
My point is this: why do we sit by and allow everyone to scream curses to our Lord? Where are the David’s of today? The shepherds who say they stand for God but when they see a Goliath in their path, they tuck tail and run. We need men and women to stand for God today. We need to be strong in the power of God. We need to realize that we can be like David who had had enough of Goliath an uncircumcised Philistine who was cursing and speaking horrible blasphemies to his Lord. David walked up with power. He knew God was with him. He didn’t doubt it. He didn’t say well if it be Your Will Lord. No! He knew it was the Lord’s Will. We know we are supposed to be standing for God. Preachers, you know you are supposed to be preaching the truth from the King James Bible and not the one that gains you the most likes. Singers, you know you are supposed to be singing praises unto the Lord that have power in them and not some sappy love song that could be sung to your bae. All Christians, you know you are actually suppose to be striving for the Lord, to keep His commandments and stop making excuses for your own questionable choices. No, I am not perfect, not at all. But I know that my God is! With Him I strive to walk with Him daily therefore I know I can have days without sin in my life. The excuses don’t impress or go over well with God and its Him who I am striving for; not me nor you. If we aren’t wiling to share to truth in God’s Word, keep His commandments ourselves, stand for Him in boldness and walk in the power that we obtained through God; then who are we serving? The Goliath’s of this world or the Living God?
Lord God Almighty, please forgive me for there are times I have not stood for You as I should have and there are times I’ve gotten in Your way. Forgive me for the times I’ve not kept Your commandments and made excuses for my choices. Forgive me for the times I’ve procrastinated in doing what was right and knowing the difference. I love you Lord and I desire to completely serve You in every way. Help me to go and stand like David.
