Everything Jesus did had a lesson attached to it so the people could learn from Him. The people were so lost before He came, before His message, before His love came to this earth; they had wandered so far away from God. When Jesus brought the people a message their hearts desired because they were so in need, they followed Him as lost sheep without a shepherd. Jesus is the shepherd they so longed for.
Do we long for a shepherd? Do we desire to be His sheep? For His sheep know the shepherd’s voice, obey it and heed to it. Do we take time to listen to His voice? Have we wandered so far away from God that we are seemingly lost? We’ve all heard the parable about Him leaving the 99 sheep to go after the 1 which is lost. Have you considered why? Why He leaves the 99 to go after that 1. Because the 99 have one another, the protection of the flock, of the spirit which dwells within them to band together and support one another. If the wolf comes to take one, the flock as a whole protects the weaker sheep. But that 1 sheep that strayed away from the protection of the flock has the greatest need. For they are wondering around lost in the world just trying to strive another day on their own. When the shepherd gets close and calls out for that 1, they know it’s His voice. Now they choose: follow or not.
Thank You Jesus for leaving the 99 and coming after me. For I was once lost but now I am found. There have been times I chose not to listen to Your voice and I’ve not followed as I should have. Once again, I am very thankful that You saw fit to come after me. I strive to live for You daily. Not perfect but striving for the perfection in heaven.
